Please join us for the third event in our Parent-Teacher Literature Series on Wednesday, February 23, at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. Mr. Nugent, our Dean of Students, will be discussing George Orwell’s classic novel Animal Farm along with Alex de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America.  In his lecture, Mr. Nugent will analyze the 20th century “fairy story” of Animal Farm through the lens of Democracy’s 19th century friendly critic, Alexis de Tocqueville. The overarching narrative and teaching of Orwell will be compared with that of Tocqueville in the exploration of themes such as equality, freedom, and the nature of tyranny in a democratic society.

Please note that attendees do not need to have read the books in advance.
